Sparton Corporation Appoints BDO Seidman, LLP Accounting Firm as Its New Auditors

(JACKSON, MICHIGAN)-Friday, December 20, 2002-Electronics Design and Manufacturing Service (EMS) Provider, Sparton Corporation (NYSE:SPA), announced the appointment of BDO Seidman, LLP Accounting Firm as its new independent auditor.

The appointment of BDO Seidman, LLP is effective immediately.

As previously disclosed, the Company solicited proposals for auditing and tax services from a number of firms for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2003. Ernst & Young LLP, the Company’s prior auditor, elected not to be a part of Sparton’s solicitation process and they resigned as the Company’s independent public accountants effective November 19, 2002.
