(Jackson, MI) - October 22, 2004 - David W. Hockenbrocht, CEO and President of Sparton Corporation, was recently selected Chairman of the Johns Hopkins Alliance for Science and Technology Development at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.
Mr. Hockenbrocht chairs a twelve-member committee charged with evaluating the commercial viability of selected research projects at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. The Alliance will then evaluate marketing opportunities and provide assistance with the identification of financing to enable the commercialization of the worthy discoveries.
The Alliance consists of both pharmaceutical and biotech executives; medical device designers and manufacturers; and venture capitalists.
The Alliance's charter is to evaluate research projects within the School of Medicine and determine the commercial strength of each project and assign an Alliance member to champion its development and marketability. The group will also become the university's conduit toward creating awareness among industry leaders and business entrepreneurs. Mr. Hockenbrocht's goal is to have more research projects become market successes or be commercially-ready.
This Alliance among business leaders and university researchers has been made possible under the provisions of the Bayh-Dole Act, which encourages the utilization of inventions produced under federal funding and promotes the participation of universities and small businesses in the development and commercialization process. It also permits exclusive licensing with transfer of an invention to the marketplace.
Sparton Corporation (NYSE:SPA) now in its 104th year, provides design engineering and electronics contract manufacturing services utilizing six manufacturing locations encompassing nearly 800,000 sq. ft. along with several alliance partner facilities.
