Challenge
Neuronetics is a medical device company focused on developing non-invasive therapies for psychiatric and neurological disorders. They were looking for a way to make their existing technology user friendly to enable psychiatrists to use it in their offices. In the past, when their patients needed treatment, doctors were required to write a prescription and send the patient to the hospital for the test to be administered. This was particularly vexing for patients who needed treatment multiple times a week.
Solution
Neuronetics looked to Sparton for help in developing this entirely new therapy product. Our job was complete oversight--from project management to mechanical and electrical design to coordination of outside development partners for the design of the electromechanical console. This console integrates software, precision mechanical components, and electronics into a system that drives this core MRI-strength magnetic technology for therapeutic use. We also conducted value engineering, which helped reduce the cost of manufacturing and gave Neuronetics a competitive advantage in the marketplace.
Results
Sparton met Neuronetics' goals by developing a user-friendly technology that allows them to gain reimbursement from their customers and enables psychiatrists to increase the number of patient treatments per week, due to the convenience of its location. "The contributions of the Sparton team have been essential to the successful design, implementation, and manufacturing of our first product, the NeuroStar TMS Therapy System," said Mark Riehl, VP Product Development and Operations at Neuronetics.
