- Sparton employs more than 50 veterans working in every key area of company operations. A top veteran’s workplace of choice, some of its veteran workforce have been employed at Sparton for more than two decades. From manufacturing to engineering to procurement to leadership positions in the organization – including the president and CEO – veterans have played a vital role in the success of the 122-year-old company. Sparton was featured in the television program Military Makeover: Operation Career, which premiered on the Lifetime Channel on April 29, 2021.
- Sparton also participates in the DoD SkillBridge internship program, where it offers six-month internship opportunities for Sailors at the end of their enlistment with the potential to transition into a permanent full-time position.
- On Veteran’s Day each year, Sparton highlights its veterans through multiple internal and external media platforms, then hosts a veteran’s luncheon where the company recognizes and honors the contribution of each veteran’s service to our nation.
- Sparton’s current CEO, Tracy Howard, is a retired Navy submariner. Its former CEO, Bill Toti, another retired submariner, gave several speeches to military and civilian audiences about the loss and the rediscovery of the USS Indianapolis CA-35 and his experience in the Pentagon during the 9/11 attack.
Sparton supports the national defense by designing, developing, testing and producing complex electromechanical maritime systems to include sonobuoys in support of Anti-Submarine Warfare and capabilities that support Undersea Warfare.
- Sparton also supports several Defense and U.S. Navy professional development conferences and committees, including providing presentations on technology innovation, and leading professional panels on evolving and improved warfighting concepts.
- In addition to providing sonobuoys to the U.S. Navy, Sparton supports the U.S. military by producing multiple Undersea Warfare capabilities and advanced compasses for U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps fire control units and all services unmanned systems.
- Sparton established a recurring information exchange visitor program with the P-8 air wing stationed onboard Naval Air Station Jacksonville, FL. P-8 aircrews visit Sparton multiple times each year and Sparton’s engineers will visit the air wing in Jacksonville. Each visit affords the naval aircrews who use sonobuoys to observe how technological specifications are integrated into sonobuoy manufacturing and it enables Sparton engineers to better understand the operational requirements behind the technical specifications.
